Our next stop on the trail is self-kindness—the second pillar of self-compassion.
At its core, self-kindness is simply treating yourself like you would a close friend—with warmth, understanding, and forgiveness.
The way I like to think about it: Self-kindness is being your own expert hiking guide. If you miss a turn on the trail, a good guide doesn’t yell or shame you. They help you reorient calmly, offer reassurance, and support you in getting back on track.
That’s what self-kindness sounds like.
This is especially important when recovering from injury or illness. Harsh words and inner criticism don’t help—they can actually make things worse, increasing stress and even physical inflammation.
But when you recognize those moments with mindfulness, that’s your cue: pause and let kindness in.
👉 This week, you’ll find:
A few short practices to help you build self-kindness, including one I use after every workout, which is one of my absolute favorites! 🏋️♂️
A guided Loving-Kindness Meditation - one of the most powerful and research-backed forms of meditation.
A fresh way to approach ice baths and cold plunges—less about toughness, more about compassion.
Self-kindness isn’t about being soft or letting yourself off the hook. It’s about shifting your mindset, word by word, step by step.
